Our History
JC Suckley started this business in 1958 at the age of 21, as a tenant on Bradford Estate. It was the following year that he grew his first crop of potatoes. Luckily this was a success and potatoes are still a key part of our business today.
Having initially also been a dairy farmer, John sold his last cow herd in the late 1990’s to concentrate on the arable, allowing the farm to evolve into what it is today.
JC & MW Suckley is now run by Johns daughter Catherine Suckley, with the help of her management team. Much like her father, Catherine has moved with the times, incorporating green energy solutions and capitalising on natural assets to grow the business.
Our Achievements
Renewables
Renewables have been the main investment in futureproofing the business. The Anaerobic Digester and the Ground Source have allowed us to better utilise our resources and reduce waste while providing a stable income for the farm.
Moving with Technology
We keep up to date with technological improvements when there are efficiencies to be gained. Investing in new tractors and harvesters allows us to reduce our break down time and keep farming quality produce.
Our People
Our people are our biggest asset, we have staff members who have worked for Suckley’s for over 30 years and who offer experience to new recruits. They are what makes our farm work, and for them we are incredibly grateful.
